Family Night in the ER

Monday nights are family night. We have familyhomeevening (Mercy always makes fun of me for saying it like it's one word). Instead of the usual, Mom invited Joe, Kori, and Pierson over for an early birthday celebration for Dad. We had a yummy dinner, watched some precious home videos and had so much fun playing with Pierson. He keeps getting more and more fun to play with as he gets older. Pierson absolutely loves playing outside, so I took him and Liv over to the apartment playground.

I was pushing Pierson in the baby swing and Livia was swinging a swing away on the big girl swing. All of a sudden the chain on Livia's swing broke. It was completely rusted and just snapped mid-air!

She landed on her stomach and burst into tears. I was in shock. What was I supposed to do? Should I leave Pierson in the swing or take him out? I made sure Livia wasn't bleeding to death and didn't need any immediate emergency medical attention, and then I got Pierson out of the swing. I figured it probably wasn't a good idea to leave him in a swing if the chains just snap out of nowhere. I called my mom to come over, but because I was using a calm voice so I wouldn't upset Livia, she thought it was no big deal and walked over to the playground instead of bringing the car to pick us up. While Mom was on her way, I held Pierson with one arm and tried to take care of Liv with the other. She said it hurt to move and I certainly wasn't going to force her to push it. I didn't know if anything was broken and I didn't want to make it worse. I was worried she might have broken her collarbone so I gently pushed her back to see if it hurt her; it didn't. When Mom got to the playground Liv was still lying on the ground. I then called my Dad and he, Joe, and Kori drove over to the playground in the van.

Livia was especially complaining about her left arm. As she had broken this arm previously, we thought it was likely that she could have re-fractured it. Mom didn't want to take any chances, so we headed to the pediatric ER. I was just going to stay home since there was no need for me to go sit at the hospital, but Liv insisted I needed to go with her, so I did.

The ER was relatively quiet, so we weren't there for long in ER standards. But it was still several hours. I sat in the waiting room and talked to Dad while Mom went back with Liv to get x-rays and see the doctor. Dad and I talked about every subject under the sun (okay, that's a lie - but we did have a good conversation that went deeper than our usual "who do you think is guilty on this episode of The Mentalist?") The final verdict: Liv sprained her arm. No broken bones! Woo hoo!

I definitely saw the power of prayer throughout this whole ordeal. We prayed while we were waiting on Mom to get to the playground. We prayed in the car on the way to the hospital. I posted an update on facebook and tons of people joined us in praying for Livia. The whole thing could have been a lot worse. She could have been very seriously injured. I truly believe Heavenly Father was watching over my little sister and kept her safe. She has big things to do in this world, and I'm thankful that she only had a minor setback (you can do most anything in a sling, except for pull your own pants down to potty ;) pahahaha)

P.S. The silly apartment people hung the swing back up by its rusty chain! They just had to make it higher since the top part of the chain broke. Simply unacceptable. Big sister will be talking to the managers about that tomorrow.

Perspective

One of Those Days by Joy Williams on Grooveshark

Half Empty:

I woke up super late today. 45 minutes late. 10 minutes before I was supposed to leave for work. When mom came in the room I thought I was already hours late to work (obviously I wasn't fully awake yet) so I called work and told them I'd be in late. I stumbled into the bathroom and turned on the shower. Then I realized I didn't have time for a shower; I'm training the new girl at work and she would be waiting on me. So I turned off the shower, threw my hair up, brushed my teeth and rushed out the door.

I thought I'd try out the fancy new drink machine at work. It makes 1 cup of practically anything (coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in a variety of flavors). Obviously, I opted for hot chocolate. It wasn't very tasty. I added a packet of hot chocolate mix to try to make it more flavorful - unfortunately, it was sugar free and made the hot chocolate even worse.

The computers broke towards the end of the day, so we had no email, access to files, or internet. In my morning rush, I forgot to grab the kindle so I had nothing to entertain me.

It started raining as soon as I left the office, and of course I left my umbrella at home so I had to walk through the parking lot in the rain.

Half Full:

I got to sleep in for 45 glorious minutes today. Mom woke me up before I would be too terribly late to work.

Someone brought us a cake to work! I love special surprises - especially edible ones :)

The computers worked the whole time Lauren (the new girl) was there, so we were able to get a lot accomplished. She is really catching on fast.

It started raining when I was on my way home from the office, but it hadn't been raining for long enough for the parking lot to flood so I didn't have to swim home and my shoes didn't get ruined.

You know you have a wonderful life when your bad days are this good.

Blessings

Today was a busy, wonderful day. I spent the majority of my day "working" (aka reading Pride and Prejudice) with a brief intermission during which I went to the eye doctor (yeap, another doctor - welcome to my life this summer). BUT, the most exciting part of my day didn't happen until this evening.

Livia and I had the blessing of watching Sabra tonight! We had so much fun with her. I think I sang little Sabra every song in the Children's Songbook and she sang right along (of course, her singing was more cooing) until she fell asleep.

She is such a beautiful and happy baby! It really was a joy to spend the evening with her. It made me think a lot about my future mommy days. I am so excited! I love that so many mommy's let me borrow their babies so I can practice being a mommy :)

When we got home, Livia and I had three big bags of hand-me-down clothes to go through! Okay, really they were intended for Livia, but I stole some...a lot... Is it bad that it gives me great pleasure to get hand-me-downs from junior high girls when I'm in college?

Beauty is Pain

I had yet another appointment with Dr. Brantley today. I didn't exactly love him this time. First off, he fussed at me. Whatever. I told him maybe he should make my acne go away faster. He told me he gladly would if I could hand over my hormones. My hormones just made me want to slap him. But it probably wasn't his fault that I was grumpy. My mood probably had to do with pain.

I was finally brave enough to get my wart frozen off. The nurse numbed (most of) my finger - which meant a shot. Livia made sure to remind me how much I hate needles while the nurse stabbed me. She's so helpful. Then Dr. Brantley blasted my wart. Although I was numb, it still wasn't comfortable. And part of my finger wasn't numbed and he had to blast that part too, so it hurt real good. And it continued to hurt for quite a while.

But now all is well. And in 2-3 weeks, my finger will be good as new :)

Because Two People Fell in Love

Once upon a time, a woman met a man at a church activity. She thought he was a rude because he was making fun of some girl (who he insists deserved it). It didn't take long though before he won her over. He lived in Ohio, and she in Indiana. This meant there was a lot of mileage put on their cars. But it was worth it. The woman was thinking of serving a mission, but the young lad talked her into waiting to see what happened with them before she went running off on a mission. A few pizzas and several trips to the rollerskating rink later, they were married for time and all eternity at the LDS temples in Washingston D.C.

Just think - if Dad hadn't proposed...or Mom hadn't said yes...I wouldn't be here! And you wouldn't be reading this very blog! So, thank you Mom and Dad for getting married. And thanks for having me :) I rather like having y'all as parents.

Happy anniversary!

Such a Woman

Church today was really something. Brother Bonnette (our Sunday school teacher) is a wonderful teacher. He is able to answer difficult comments/questions with ease and such poise. At the end of class today, he bore powerful testimony. It made me want to yell out "Preach it, Brother! Amen!", but we don't really do that in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so I held back. The lesson in Relief Society was amazing too. Such a great day at church.

Well, there was also some weird mixed in there. Unusual questions. And comments.
The above picture is a picture of the outfit I wore to church today. It's a pretty normal outfit for me, but today it attracted a weird comment. A man (and no, he didn't say it to be creepy - I just think it is, so don't judge him. he's not a creeper) came up to me after church and complimented my outfit and told me it made me look like a woman. Not a little girl anymore. Haha, I must admit I found the comment really strange. I know it was just supposed to be a compliment. But...it was weird. Especially since it wasn't someone I talk to much at church.

Anywayyyyy, after church I did Liv's hair and makeup. We were just playing around, but Mom really liked it and gave Liv permission to wear mascara in junior high (little does Livia know that I was wearing full on makeup in junior high...) I caught Livia looking in the mirror, "is this a glimpse of the future? if so, i like it!" Hahahahaha, of little Liv.

Dino Pals 4Life

Today after work I headed over to Courtney's house. Courtney and I have been best friends, dino pals, since sixth grade (more or less, haha). Her boyfriend, Brandon, has been away on a mission trip in China, but he is coming home on Saturday. She is so super excited to see him and wanted to have a plethora of nutella goodies waiting for him. Unfortunately, Courtney isn't exactly a baker extraordinaire. That's where I come in. According to Courtney, Brandon is very lucky that he has an amazing girlfriend and a Lisa, haha.

While we were busy baking, my mom and dad were calling and texting me like crazy. They were worried because I didn't come home from work. In my defense, I told them during FHE that I was going to Court's on Thursday after work. And I'm still not really used to having to check in with people. I mean, Caroline didn't care what time I got home (okay, she did freak out once when I didn't come home until late but for the most part I didn't have to tell her my schedule). Lucky for them I eventually checked my phone and calmed their fears.

Courtney rewarded me for my baking help with a delicous dinner. We spent the rest of the evening talking about our future weddings (her's may be very soon :) yayyyy!) Courtney and Ms. Rena both fell in love with my wedding dress. It's mine. Really. I don't care if some other girl is wearing it in the pictures and it was custom made for her, it's mine. Ahhhh! It made me so excited to get married. I love my future hubby :) Whoever he is, I love him.

Out of Focus

If we're being honest, I noticed words on the board in class getting a little harder to see, but I didn't want to admit it to myself (or anyone else). But, it looks like I've been living life out of focus. While we were sitting on the levee waiting for it to get dark for fireworks, I stole Liv's glasses and put them on.

I was not expecting what I saw - everything was so clear.  I could read tiny words on boats in the water and everything, everything looked so much sharper and more beautiful! It was amazing. The only problem is now I know what I'm missing. So, it looks like I'll be adding the eye doctor to my list of doctors I'll be seeing this summer. I'd say it's about time for some clarity.

Happy Birthday, America

Gotta love Louisiana - we had a nice southern thunderstorm today. The power went out and *drum roll please* the rain leaked in through the balcony door and  Livia's bedroom window.

Luckily the rain stopped and the power came back on just in time to shower, eat dinner, and head to the levee. We watched the USS KIDD reenactment (they shoot off cannons and guns and fake bombs and planes fly by and do a fake attack).

Look at my cute little sister holding her million dollar bill :)

Little sisters come in handy every now and then . . . like when you want someone to feed you a pina colada italian ice.

When the fireworks started, I realize how happy  fireworks make me. They are just so beautiful.  I'm a big fan.

I'm proud  to be an American.

Anyone "interesting"?

When I got home from institute tonight Mom asked (as always) if I met anyone interesting. I think she's under the impression that my attendance at institute is me "fishing" as Brother Gomez instructed me to do. Umm, no. No fishing. Just learning. I just want to listen to the lesson. That's all.

There were a lot of new faces (to me at least) tonight at institute though. No husband material though, Mom :)

Flaaaaaaat

Flat. Flat flat flat. Evidently I ran over a nail. Well, actually it was a little baby screw. Anyway, the leak gave me a flat. Luckily my dad came to my rescue. He filled the tire up enough for me to drive home and then when we got back to the apartment he plugged that sucker up.

It freaked me out a little bit watching him plug it up because he had to make the hole bigger  in order to get the plug in. Stressed. Me. Out. But all is well :) Tire is fixed and life is good.

Edmund

Mom is convinced my future husband's name is Edmund. She has been doodling "Lisa and Edmund" all afternoon. I'm mostly just blogging this in case she turns out to be right...

Happy Mother's Day to Me, a Plant Mom

I really love my plant babies. I didn't know how much I would enjoy being a plant mom. In the past, I've basically killed e...
